Fraternalist of the Year

Youth and Adult Guidelines 2007
Sponsored by the Illinois Fraternal Congress
Purpose
The Youth and Adult Fraternalist of the Year Awards are honors bestowed by the Illinois Fraternal Congress (IFC) to recognize a young individual and adult within the fraternal benefit system who, through example and accomplishment, provided outstanding volunteer service to his/her lodge, society, and community during the past year.

Eligibility
Anyone between the ages of 12-22 and who has been a member of an Illinois fraternal benefit society for at least two years may apply for the youth award. Those above 22 years of age, who have also been involved in a fraternal society for at least two years may be nominated for the adult award.
Worthy candidates must show that they are involved in community service volunteerism apart from the fraternal benefit system, such as school, church, Boy or Girl Scouts, etc.
Individuals who are compensated by their society for their volunteer efforts are not eligible to receive the award.
The IFC adult and youth awards can be won only once by an individual. However, a society is eligible to nominate an individual not selected previously as IFC Youth or Adult Fraternalist of the Year.

Description of the Award
An engraved plaque will be presented to the youth and adult honorees at the annual meeting of the Illinois Fraternal Congress. The annual meeting is generally held on Thursday and Friday in late February or early March each year with the award presentation held Thursday night during the annual dinner.
The honorees will be invited to attend the IFC annual meeting with travel, lodging, and meal expenses for the honoree paid for by the IFC. The IFC will pay meal costs for 3 guests of each honoree. Any travel or lodging expenses incurred by guest(s) will be paid by the sponsoring fraternal benefit societies.
The Illinois Fraternal Congress will present $100 checks in the name of the Youth and Adult Fraternalist of the Year to the charitable/nonprofit organization of the honorees' choice.
One winner will be selected in the Youth and Adult categories. There will be no ties. The two winners will each receive an award which is an engraved plaque.

Program Procedure
The program will be administered by the IFC Youth and Adult Fraternalists of the Year Committee.

Each society is strongly encouraged to sponsor both the Adult Fraternalist of the Year and the Youth Fraternalist of the Year programs within their local chapters. It is suggested that the programs within each society be coordinated and promoted by the fraternal director.

Each member society is eligible to submit one adult and one youth nomination per year. Please use the adult or youth nomination forms provided. Information listed on the nomination forms should cover activities for the past year only. Nominations are to be postmarked no later than February 8, 2008. Faxed forms will not be accepted.

A qualified panel of independent judges will choose the adult and youth honorees. The judging panel of at least three (3) people will be appointed by the IFC Youth and Adult Fraternalist of the Year Committee.

Media information regarding the Adult and Youth Fraternalists of the Year programs and the 2007 honorees will be distributed by the IFC Youth and Adult Fraternalist of the Year Committee.

One original head and shoulders photo of the adult and youth nominees must be returned with the nomination form. Failure to provide a quality photograph with the nomination forms will result in disqualification.

All nomination forms must be postmarked by February 8, 2008.
Incomplete entries or entries postmarked after
the deadline will not be considered.
